Our commitment

Awakind was founded on a guiding principle; To create quality inclusive sleepwear whilst educating and empowering families to give back to children in need. We go about this in the most ethical and sustainable way to ensure we are doing good in every part of our business. Sustainable Natural Fibres - As a locally run family business, we are passionate about building a better world for the next generation, therefore we only use the highest quality organically grown cotton and bamboo in our sleepwear. Proudly 100% Aussie Made - We are passionate about supporting our local industry, which is why we make all our pyjamas right here in Australia. From sourcing fabrics with local mills, to printing packaging locally, designing with local pattern makers, and sewing with local manufacturers.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

Awakind has a heavy focus on using Bamboo in most of our apparel as it is an eco-friendly resource that looks out for Mother Earth. When bamboo is produced the water used is recycled, making it a water conserving resource. It is the fastest growing plant on the planet. It needs little to no help from us to regenerate, which is great because that means it doesn't use nasty pesticides or chemicals in it's production. Bamboo also detoxifies the air we breath. It produces 30% more oxygen than the equivalent amount of trees, absorbing more carbon dioxide and green house gases then trees do. In addition all Awakind parcels are sent in compostable or recycled/recyclable plastic mailers.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Keeping kids warm at night and allowing their skin to breathe is critical for a healthy nights sleep. That’s why all our PJs and bedding are made from the highest quality organic bamboo and organic cotton. We have a particular focus on bamboo for many reasons. It is eco-friendly and sustainable. Bamboo is a self-replenishing resource, meaning when it gets cut down, it re-grows automatically on it's own. It doesn't require nasty pesticides or chemicals in its harvest, so it’s naturally organic. Bamboo is also, machine washable, hypoallergenic, and naturally anti-bacterial. Both our Bamboo jersey and Cotton jersey fabrics are soft, breathable and help regulate your littles temperature throughout the night. They are super soft and super comfy, making them great to wear and great to sleep in.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

We are passionate about supporting our local industry, which is why we make over 80% of all our products right here in Australia. From sourcing fabrics with local mills, to printing packaging locally, designing with local pattern makers, and sewing with local manufacturers. We are proud supports of local industry.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

Awakind was founded with a big ambition - to create a brand that challenges the status quo in sleepwear, where the profits are used to fund homes for children in real need. Homes that give vulnerable children much needed care, shelter and a safe place to sleep. It became our mission to build a better world through something we all do every night…sleep! Awakind is a Social Enterprise and has partnered with i=Change to donate $1 from every sale to life changing projects helping kids in need. Providing more than a roof over their heads, these projects give kids a place to play, grow, sleep and dream. Through our partnership with i=Change we provide complete transparency so you are guaranteed that your donation reaches the charity in full and can have the greatest impact. We would like to introduce you to our three partner charities that are changing the world for children through your purchase; 1. Save the Children - Supporting children in emergencies when they need it most 2. Women’s Community Shelters - Providing shelter to a woman escaping domestic violence 3. Australian Childhood Foundation - Supporting a child's recovery through providing specialised counselling for abuse.
