Butterfly Maternity

We’re all about motherhood, from pre-pregnancy to blooming bellies, breastfeeding and beyond.

Our commitment

We’re committed to low impact manufacturing processes, to leave a minimal footprint on our earth. Ethical fabrication, sustainable resources, no single use plastic - we honour eco-conscious production practices in every stage, from fabric selection to dyeing processes to packaging. What’s more, we donate 1% of all proceeds directly to 1% for the Planet, to drive positive environmental change for future generations. So your purchase helps create a better world for your little one. We re-engineered the manufacturing process, choosing environmentally-friendly Tencel ™ from certified sustainably grown eucalyptus trees for our latest Butterfly Maternity Pillow Covers. A natural, plant-derived, biodegradable fibre, Tencel ™ is exquisitely soft, breathable and flexible, creating a luxuriously gentle, comfortable feel for you and your bub.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

Ethical fabrication: Our textile suppliers are ECO Biz accredited and have a strict water management plan and onsite facility to treat liquid waste. 30% of the facilities power is generated through our own source of solar power. The largest pollutant in textile manufacturing is the liquid waste that can be harmful to nearby waterway. Their first port of call is to recycle the waste water used in the dyeing process. The water is stored in large tanks onsite then reused in non-sensitive dyeing processes. Where waste water can't be recycled, it treated at the onsite effluent plant so that it can safely re-enter the environment. Reduced plastic packaging: We have eliminated single use plastic by turning to reusable zip lock bags.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Our newest range of pillow covers is lovingly crafted using 35% Tencel™, an environmentally-friendly fabric from sustainably grown eucalyptus and beech cellulose fibres, which has the ability to biodegrade at the end of its life cycle. Tencel™ is naturally pure white, requiring no bleaching, to further reduce the chemical load of our production process. And our unique dyeing formulations are thoughtfully low-impact, to create fashion-forward colours and prints while minimising our footprint on the earth.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

We have partnered with ethical textile suppliers who are ECO Biz accredited. They have a strict water management plan and onsite facility to treat liquid waste. They also have a number of other production optimising machines that help regulate and measure the fabric conditions as its being processed so they are efficiently using their energy. This is more aligned with their natural gas consumption.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

We are registered for 1% for the Planet. A global movement inspiring businesses to support environmental solutions through annual memberships and everyday actions. This means we are committed to donate the equivalent of 1% of gross sales through a combination of monetary, in-kind and approved promotional support directly to Environmental Partners. We are also registered as a local Collection Point for The Nappy Collective, an initiative that collects new + leftover nappies + redistribute them to families in crisis across Australia.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

As we grow we are committed to putting practices in place for open discussion for all employees and future employees. We are committed to providing all employees multiple ways to provide feedback, promote pay equity and acknowledging holidays of all cultures. We are committed to providing safe spaces for employees by keeping all discussions open and transparent and understanding one another's ways of working. At this stage we have a small group of employees of all ages and gender. As we grow, we will maintain this standard.
