CARE Australia

CARE Australia works to defeat global poverty by supporting women to create lasting change in their communities around the world.

Our commitment

At CARE Australia, we put sustainability and climate change resilience at the heart of our program development, advocacy and operations. In accordance with CARE’s global outcomes and approach, we endeavour to encompass climate resilience in our program project planning and implementation. We work to ensure our advocacy program includes a focus on the impacts of climate change and use our voice, both domestically and in our capacity as a member of an international confederation, to raise awareness and lobby for change.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

We have committed to reducing greenhouse emissions on travel by 50% by 2025. For unavoidable emissions caused by travel we have implemented a BACHAT cook stove program through CARE International. Phase 1 of this program will continue until December 2024, benefitting over 9,000 traditional polluting cookstove-dependent households from Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts of Odisha, India, and leading to substantial carbon emission reductions.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

We are a digital-first organisation. Paper in our fundraising mail packs is sustainably sourced and printed on 100% recycled Australian waste whenever possible.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

CARE Australia is a leading international aid organisation that supports women around the globe to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice. We work in partnership with local communities to provide equal opportunities for women that they have long been denied: the ability to earn an income, gain access to their fair share of resources, to lead and participate in decisions that affect their lives, and to be able to withstand the increasing impacts of climate disasters and other crises.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

We are an organisation that has gender equality at the heart of our work. It is core to all our international programming and humanitarian response work, and we are considered experts in this field. This includes a Diversity & Inclusion Policy and Action Plan, advocacy for disability rights in the international development space, and a Reconciliation Action Plan.
