Grays

Grays is the largest industrial, automotive and commercial eCommerce business in Australasia, offering a huge range of industrial, automotive, consumer and commercial goods, direct from manufacturers and distributors.

Our commitment

For over 20 years Grays has pioneered the circular economy. Never has the circular economy been more important. It ensures sustainable growth allowing us to drive the optimisation of resources, reduce the consumption and waste of raw materials and give second hand products a new life. Energy and material input --> Production --> Distribution --> Use -- Repair/Reuse --> Repeat Not only do online auctions of used and pre-loved items help save the planet, they help save household and business budgets too. Unreserved online auctions, or reserves starting as low as $9, provide potentially huge savings across all kinds of items. Beyond the real savings, online auctions have also helped house-bound consumers get through the pandemic, with easy access to all kinds of goods.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

It’s not just used, unwanted or pre-loved items that Grays offers for online auction. New and reconditioned technology products such as desktop and laptop computers, monitors, tablets, televisions and a range of other high-tech gear can be purchased online at bargain prices. Moreover, Grays sells: second-hand cars and parts, second-hand industrial equipment and more.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

Grays aims to work with suppliers who share our commitment to best practice and continuous improvement and who demonstrate standards of sustainable business practice. In particular, Grays will strive to engage suppliers that: maintain policies and systems to identify, monitor and review their environmental performance; manage environmental risks by applying best practice principles; comply with their legal and regulatory obligations in relation to environmental performance; and identify, assess and take steps to reduce the environmental hazards which arise from their products and services

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

Vanuatu is the second poorest country in the Pacific and access to workable computers for learning is scant at very best. There are less than two dozen desktop computers in the Central School, one of the largest schools in the capital. The teachers stretch and bend it as far as they can, though with a finite limit of computers - decent computers - there is only so much that can be done. The Vanuatu Project aims to bring second-hand, workable, computers to local schools; and give them a new life. Often these 3 mins per day are the only screen time a child is exposed to meaning learning about the opportunities of technology is almost impossible. Teachers at the school know just what a difference just one additional computer makes in a child’s life. Grays and one of our agencies Mudbath recently donated a number of laptops, phones and tablets. The difference will be huge. For one, they’re laptops and can move from classroom to classroom.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

Grays actively supports the principle of equal employment opportunity regardless of race, colour, family status, employment status, religion, political opinion, national origin, sex, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or ethical beliefs and expects its senior management and employees to practise and support this principle. Grays' policy is to avoid discriminatory practices of any kind and to make employment and career decisions strictly on the basis of individual ability, performance, experience and Group requirements. Grays believes that every individual has the right to dignity and respect in the workplace. Grays also does the following: celebrate Harmony Day at our sites, undertakes a gender pay gap review as part of the annual remuneration review process, we partner with At Work Australia, a disability employment services provider, offer flexibility that is tailored to individuals and their circumstances, rather than a “one size fits all” approach and Grays employees are required to complete diversity and inclusion training every year. Additionally, Grays also: partner with RSL, which works to place place veterans into employment and also have a strong focus on mental health and wellbeing.

  • How does your circular model or circular initiative work?

The concept of the circular economy is relatively simple – it is based on recycling and re-use of all kinds of products, rather than disposal. Consider the omnipresent op shop, where clothing and other household items are donated, to be purchased by those in need at bargain prices with proceeds often going to charity. Grays often holds charity auctions on Cars, Jewellery and more.
