Hey Tiger

Hey Tiger

Hey Tiger is on a mission to delight you aesthetically (life’s a catwalk right?!), dazzle your tastebuds, and make chocolate as sweet as it should be for everyone.

Our commitment

Hey Tiger's commitment is an ethical one. Sadly, the cacao industry is a broken one. There are millions of women and children in forced labour in West Africa - where the majority of cacao comes from. The average worker earns around .73c per day which is drastically under the poverty line. We believe everyone in the chocolate industry deserves to prosper. Chocolate is one of life’s greatest little gifts and no one should be suffering to bring us that joy. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure there’s no mistreatment of workers or forced labour in our supply chain and always pay above the average market price to help secure livelihoods for farmers. We also donate 2% from each block sold to our partners at The Hunger Project – backing their incredible work to support women’s empowerment and social development programs in West Africa. We sum this up with our signature statement ‘Looks good, tastes good, does good’ it really is that simple.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

Every Hey Tiger chocolate block is made with love in Melbourne — and uses fully recyclable packaging, too.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Every block produced utilises cacao purchased through an equitable purchasing program, which pours funds back into communities to help build a more just world. And as part of our fierce commitment to cacao communities, we donate 2% of every block to our charity partners at The Hunger Project. Our packaging is fully recyclable.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

At Hey Tiger, we are committed to not just avoiding unethical practices, but actively counteracting them. We purchase our cacao using a system that ensures regular auditing of the supply chain, weeding out occurrences of underpayment, forced labour or enslavement, and child or underage labour. Our cacao origins are largely Western African, and some are of South American origin. All of them pass our strict regulation standards. On top of this, most of our inclusions are made right here in Australia.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

Every Hey Tiger block purchased gives back to The Hunger Project, funding a more equitable global landscape. 2% of every block sold specifically funds the Women's Empowerment and Entrepreneurship & Social Development initiatives in Ghana, where much of our cacao is sourced from. We're thrilled that we've found a way to give back to chocolate communities through multiple avenues. The Hunger Project's mission is to end hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centred strategies and advocating for their widespread adoption in countries throughout the world. Founded in 1977, The Hunger Project holds the view that people living in hunger aren't the problem: they're the solution. THP empowers women and men living in rural villages in Africa, India, Bangladesh and Latin America to end their own hunger by unlocking their capacity, creativity, and leadership. The end of hunger is possible, and The Hunger Project is building the solution.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

Millions of women and children are in forced labour situations on cacao farms in West Africa, where the majority of cacao comes from, and 2/3 of farmers are living below the poverty line. Over 60% of the world's cocoa comes from Côte d'Ivoire & Ghana, produced by 2,500,000 smallholder farmers. The living income is set at $2.49 per person per day in Côte d'Ivoire, and $2.16 in Ghana. However, excessively low cocoa prices have led to an average farmer income of just $0.72 a day. There are also an estimated 1.56 million children missing out on their youth to child labour in these countries. 95% of these children are doing hazardous work such as using a machete, spraying chemical pesticides, or lifting heavy loads. Every block Hey Tiger produces utilises cacao purchased through an equitable purchasing program, which pours funds back into communities to help build a more just world, especially for women and children.
