Huskee

At Huskee, we design functional and beautiful products that utilise waste and recycled materials to accelerate a transition to a waste-free world.

Our commitment

Our journey began with the iconic HuskeeCup. A modular, reusable cup for homes, cafes, and takeaway that recycles coffee husk, a waste product from the production of coffee. Our mission is to build a global closed-loop ecosystem for the creation and collection of our unique bio-polymer products eliminating the need for single or low use products.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

We have conducted a life cycle analysis of our cups in 2020 and are acting on the outcomes of the report. The biggest changes we have implemented to date are locating our manufacturing as close to the husk source as possible to reduce emissions and implementing the HuskeeLoop program, which helps ensure that our products have an end-of-life pathway to be recycled and repurposed into new products.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Our unique bio-polymer is what makes it possible. Built from waste coffee husk and our PP based resin, we have chosen materials for durability, food safety and the ability to re-purpose. Our new range of HuskeeRenew cups use 50% post-consumer plastic waste, further reducing our impact and incorporating circular design principles.

  • How are the service/s you offer environmentally friendly?

HuskeeSwap is our cup exchange designed to make using reusables more convenient and enable cafes to transition away from single-use disposable cups. This is made possible through a closed-loop system, ensuring that single-use cup waste is reduced.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

Our intention is to enable sustainability within our industry, not just through the product we create, but also within the systems used to create it. Huskee is committed to upholding human rights, fair working conditions and environmental protection. In accordance with the expectations of the community, our customers and the law, we are endeavouring to operate responsibly within the community and expect the same from our suppliers. Huskee is introducing its Ethical Sourcing Policy to ensure it is sourcing its products responsibly and to provide a framework to work with its suppliers to improve their social and environmental practices. The Policy has been developed in order to reflect our core values, and we are committed to working with our suppliers to help improve these practices.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

Huskee proactively partners with corporations, universities, local governments and not-for-profit groups like Responsible Cafes to increase our impact and uptake of the Huskeeswap system. We also provide donations to community groups and programs such as The Hunger Project and Dymocks Children's Charities upon request.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

    a. Statement of Policy i. We recognise that discrimination is unacceptable and, although equality of opportunity has been a long-standing feature of our practices and procedure, we have made the decision to adopt a formal equal opportunities policy. ii. Breaches of the policy will lead to disciplinary proceedings and, if appropriate, disciplinary action. The aim of the policy is to ensure that no job applicant or employee is discriminated against either directly or indirectly on the grounds of age, disability, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation. iii. The policy will also be communicated to all private contractors reminding them of their responsibilities in respect of equality of opportunity. iv. We will maintain a neutral workplace in which no employee or other worker feels under threat or intimidated. b. Recruitment and selection i. The recruitment and selection process is crucially important to any equal opportunities policy. We will endeavour through appropriate training to ensure that employees making selection and recruitment decisions will not discriminate, whether consciously or unconsciously, in making these decisions. ii. • How does your circular model or circular initiative work?

HuskeeLoop is our cups end-of-life program. Sometimes, good things come to an end. Our goal is to ensure over 90% of everything we make is collected and re-purposed into amazing new Huskee products. However we can't do this alone, we need your help, both as individuals and businesses. Return any damaged or end-of-life products to your nearest collection point.
