Sustainable Fashion.Vegan.Ethical.Circular.Plants Not Plastics.

Our commitment

The James&Co sustainability journey has involved a series of organisational pivots to harness sustainable changes in textiles that will eradicate plastic from fashion. We started as a cruelty-free vegan non-leather brand for women's fashion tailored in the textile used for faux/ vegan leather viz polyurethane (PU). Harmful textile to environment and workers as its composition contains chemicals and fossilfuels. Some years later innovators developed leather-look without the chemical using plant waste-pineapples, cactus leaves etc. James&Co ditched PU and tailored in plantbased textiles. More sustainable but not biodegradable as they contain fossilfuels-that is, still plastics. In 2022 a 100% plantbased leather-look textile MIRUM®came onto the market. James&Co has ditched partially plantbased textiles and, pending full transition to our leather-look products tailored in MIRUM®, tailors only in plantbased textiles such as bamboo.Watch this space for our MIRUM®Chelsea boot next year!

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Central to our business is timeless fashion pieces that do not contain plastic. We do not use synthetic leather at all currently because traditional PU vegan leather contains both harmful chemicals and fossilfuels, and partially plantbased synthetic leather contains fossilfuels. That is, they are still plastics. We have a working relationship with the organisation that has developed 100% plantbased synthetic leather called MIRUM® and are transitioning all our classic leather-look apparel & accessories to MIRUM® with our manufacturers.
