King

For five decades, King has created timeless Australian furniture designed to last for generations while adapting to our changing lives. From humble beginnings, the family-owned Australian company is now a global brand with showrooms across the world.

Our commitment

King was founded in 1977 with the aim of decreasing the amount of furniture destined for landfill. When founder David King saw the number of sofas sitting on curbsides waiting to be taken to landfill, he was determined to solve the problem by designing furniture built to last a lifetime. Design elements, including the steel frame, removable covers and modular design, are the foundation of our commitment. We consider every aspect of product design an opportunity to create furniture that stands the test of time rather than ending up in landfill. “Because we have full control over our products, we can ensure that our products are sustainable, that the components we’re using are recyclable and that the furniture will last.” - David King, Founder. We believe it is our responsibility to consider the environmental impact of everything we do at every stage, from design conception right through to the end of a product’s lifecycle.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

King embeds sustainability into every process. End-to-end control from design to manufacture and delivery allows for sustainable choices. King chooses recyclable materials and designs to reduce carbon footprint. Every King design is built to last a lifetime. The King Difference is the bedrock of our environmental commitment. TIMELESS AUSTRALIAN DESIGN Aesthetically simple, clean silhouettes are the foundation of our design philosophy. Investing heavily in research and development, the Australian in-house design team continually strive toward the best solution, striking a balance between exceptional design and comfort. STEEL FRAME Backed by a 25-year guarantee, the steel frame provides every King design with the strong foundation needed to last a lifetime. FLEXIBLE LIVING Modular furniture is designed for flexible living adapting to fit your lifestyle and your space. King designs travel through time with you, collecting memories that can be handed down from generation to generation. REMOVABLE COVERS Tailored removable covers feature on every soft-covered design. Thanks to the built-in ability to clean, repair, and refresh covers with ease, we are still recovering and extending the life of our furniture from the 1970s.

  • How does your circular model or circular initiative work?

King takes a circular economy approach by considering the end-to-end life cycle of a product at every stage. A benefit of owning this process means we have control over the design, manufacturing, delivery, and after-care of our furniture. As a vertically integrated business, we control every stage of the process. Precision engineered steel frames ensure longevity and can be fully recycled at end-of-life. Recyclable cardboard boxes reduce the need for plastic packaging. Modular designs reduce wasted space in transport containers, lowering the carbon footprint. Electrical products are ROHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant.
