Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

We have a Sustainability Committee at Knobby HQ who meet each month and discuss initiatives that each depart can implement to reduce our impact on the environment. These range from small things like offering our packing boxes to the community to pick up for free when they move house to large scale projects investigating how we can close the loop and recycle or reuse old materials. We're currently looping into an initiate where we can turn these materials into dog beds or building materials. As a business we're always working towards doing better and being better.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Bamboo - a renewable, fast growing resource that does not require any pesticides or a large amount of resources to grow. Organic Cotton - a renewable resource which contains no pesticides, herbicides or GMOs. Organic agriculture is a production process that sustains the health of ecosystems, soils and people Recycled polyester - Moving away from virgin finite resources gives a second life to materials that would otherwise end up in landfill and is a step towards a more circular system Recycled Nylon - Moving away from virgin finite resources gives a second life to materials that would otherwise end up in landfill and is a step towards a more circular system For staples we have used organic cotton, certified by GOTS which is better because no pesticides are used in growing. We use merino wool which is a natural fibre and doesn’t need additional anti odour treatments added. It’s made in Australia and has the following certifications: Woolmark, OekoTex100, Responsible Wool Standard, ISO9001 (Quality management system AU) and ISO14001 (Environmental Management system AU).

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

All our factories are fair trade certified and we strive to work with Australian owned and operated manufacturers where possible. We have just launched our Merino Wool Underwear, championing Sustainable Austrian Textiles. Designed and manufactured in Australia with end-to-end traceability and the coveted Woolmark certification. It’s long been a dream of Knobby’s to work with merino wool and raise the profile of this nature-based, high performance local textile. Knobby’s merino wool comes from sheep reared in the Great Dividing Range of Victoria, designed and made into underwear in the brand’s Melbourne factory and packed ready for customers at its Sunshine Coast warehouse. It doesn’t get more Aussie than that!

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

We have partnered with i=Change to donate $1 from every sale to one of three charities including the Starlight Foundation helping bring joy to sick kids; we help clean the seas with Sea Bin and assist women in need with Women's community shelters.
