Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort is a globally recognised ecotourism leader and is committed to safeguarding Lady Elliot Island and the surrounding Great Barrier Reef. Our vision is to preserve and protect Lady Elliot Island as a pristine coral cay within the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. We aspire to offer a nature-based experience, inviting our guests worldwide to witness the natural beauty and delicate ecosystem of a coral cay. As custodians of this pristine environment, our mission is to ensure its preservation as nature intended, inviting our guests to experience the island in an economically and ecologically responsible way. It is our goal to continually educate and inspire our guests to minimise their footprint whilst enjoying this beautiful natural asset.

What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?
Sustainability Actions Our Commitment Implementing sustainability initiatives on a remote, off-grid Island has a unique set of challenges. There is no supplied electricity, no mains water or wastewater treatment operation and no weekly garbage truck! The eco-resort has to produce its own electricity, desalinate its own water, treat all water and sewage and remove ALL waste whilst adhering to our sustainability objectives of minimal impact on the environment. Our Actions It has been a thrilling journey since 2005 transforming the eco-resort to a world leading eco-tourism business! Our sustainability actions focus on reducing carbon emissions, water-usage and minimising waste. We are dedicated to protecting and improving the Island’s biodiversity in partnership with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and private industry; and inspiring our guests and surrounding community to become ECO Warriors and join us in our mission to protect the Great Barrier Reef for future generations. Our Team Our team are very passionate and really care about the reef and the Island’s fragile eco-system. Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort is home to numerous Master Reef Guides who are highly trained guides that share the wonders of the reef.

Our sustainability platform and business model has led to a significant contribution to our local community and economy which was steadily grown over time through our Buy Green and Local policies. We also support groups that help others in need such as the Make-a-wish foundation, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, Sea Shepherd, Marine Rescue, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to name a few.
