Lighthouse Lane

Lighthouse Lane offers ethically sourced bamboo, rattan & seagrass pendant light shades. We are committed to using high quality, natural & sustainable materials. Each light shade is intricately hand-woven by artisans who we work with directly.

Our commitment

Lighthouse Lane is passionate about doing what it can to minimise harm to our planet. We do business in ways that are good for the planet – cherishing the global communities in which we operate. Each of our lights are made from sustainable materials. Our designs are timeless & we focus on quality craftsmanship so you can buy once & buy well, confident that your light will stand the test of time. Our lights are small batch made & factory free. Hand-woven by artisans who set the price for their wares – we don’t negotiate. We are minimising our environmental footprint by working with suppliers to find plastic packaging alternatives. Our light shades are packed in boxes made from recycled cardboard & stuffed with kraft paper to protect them during shipping. All of which can be recycled at home. We know that there is always more we can do & we look for ways to do better each day.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

Lighthouse Lane’s light shades are packed with care in boxes made from recycled cardboard & stuffed with thick kraft paper to protect them during shipping. All of which can be recycled in home recycling bins. No bubble wrap in sight!! As a new small business I know that there is more I can do & I’m excited to take leaps in our sustainability journey over the next 12 months to ensure we minimise and offset our carbon footprint, and continue to work with my suppliers to find alternatives to plastic wrapping our lights sometimes arrive in. Our goals in the next 12 months are to: Partner with an Australian company to offset our carbon emissions Ship our products carbon neutral Reduce the amount of soft plastic received from Indonesian suppliers.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Using natural and sustainable materials is at the core of Lighthouse Lane, with a passion for sustainable living and reducing the impact we have on our environment. All of our unique light shades are made from natural fibres - rattan, bamboo and seagrass.

  • How are the service/s you offer environmentally friendly?

This question is not relevant to our business model.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

Lighthouse Lane works directly with small family businesses in Indonesia. These businesses have been personally chosen based on the positive impact it has on small family run operations and their community. Having lived in Indonesia for a number of years with my family it was important to me to support local artisans and their communities without a middleman ensuring all monies are directly paid to the workers. My artisans set their price for their wares, and I do not negotiate on this. All materials for the shades are all sourced locally which supports the wider community.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

Lighthouse Lane partners with personally selected small businesses in Indonesia because I want to make a positive impact on small family run businesses. These businesses employ family and friends in their small villages to weave for them. My artisans set their price for their wares, and I do not negotiate on this. All materials for the shades are all sourced locally which supports the wider community. This ensures there is a direct, positive impact on these businesses and their local community.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

Lighthouse Lane strives to be accepting of all people. The artisans I work with have been chosen because of their ability to craft high quality light shades. Not because of their gender, age, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability or age. We will always work with the right people for the job.
