Lovehoney

At Lovehoney Australia we are the biggest online retailer of sex toys and the sexual happiness people. We make a fun, fulfilling sex life available to everyone with free delivery and easy returns.

Our commitment

Lovehoney’s mission is to bring sexual happiness to the world through the products we sell and the content we produce, and we’re delighted that we’re pretty far along in our journey to do just that. As a fast-growing, global brand, we know we have an ever-increasing responsibility to reduce our impact on the planet. We know it’s important to get this right, and we’re working on a plan to make sure that as we grow, we make a positive difference. We’ve already taken some first steps on climate change, plastic packaging and sustainable materials. See below for a few that we’d like to share with you. We know that packaging plays an important role in protecting products, but it shouldn’t come at an unaffordable cost to the planet. Our aim is for all our own-brand Lovehoney product packaging to be free of single-use plastic by 2023 - and we are on track to achieve that. We like to bring our friends on the journey with us, so we’ll be encouraging our brand partners to do the same.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

We’re reducing single use plastic. We have steadily replaced plastic with cardboard for interior packaging components - for example where a product needs to be secured in place in its box to avoid damage during transit. It might mean our product packaging looks a little less fancy, but we have already stopped using glitter and reduced the use of foil, gloss laminate and matt laminate finishes on exterior packaging. Keeping it simple is - simply - better for the planet.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

In April 2021 we launched our first ever range of sustainable Lovehoney lingerie, Lovehoney Mindful. The Mindful Collection includes: - Lace and elastics made from pre-consumer recycled yarns - No single use plastic - A 100% compostable cornstarch bag - Swing tags made from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) recycled kraft paper with a paper string. - We’re looking forward to using the Mindful range as a springboard to learning how to introduce eco-conscious elements to the rest of the Lovehoney Lingerie range. With our Womanizer Premium Eco Smart Silence Clitoral Stimulator, we're ushering in a new age of sex toys with its special Biolene material, which is largely made from renewable raw materials. It's more environmentally friendly than typical plastic and avoids environmentally harmful waste.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

We’re working with our suppliers to ensure they are aligned with our ethical standards expectations, including the avoidance of forced labor and child labor. We screen new suppliers against environmental, social and governance criteria and we audit key suppliers in line with recognized international responsible supply chain frameworks such as those relating to social systems accountability. Collaboration is important to us at Lovehoney Group, and we’re working closely with suppliers on solutions to improve the environmental credentials of our products and packaging.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

The Bee Kind network is a group of volunteers who have a special interest in the charitable activities that Lovehoney Group and Lovehoney Group colleagues take part in. There are three main strands to what we do: - Support charities local to our offices through one-off donations - Organise company-wide fundraising efforts - Match individual colleague fundraising efforts (see more info below!) The Bee Kind network is supported by the Bee Kind Committee and its senior sponsors. The Bee Kind Committee is responsible for: organising meetings; distributing surveys to get input into which charities we support; and coordinating our charitable giving. Lovehoney Group supports individual and team fundraising and will match colleague fundraising, up to an overall annual limit. Some great examples of previous fundraising efforts are: Gold Coast Marathon - 14 Lovehoney staff and family/friends entering the 5km, 10km, 21km 42km and 63km runs, for TIACS - This Is A Conversation Starter.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

We are delighted to be part of an exciting new collaboration with Stonewall by joining Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme. Stonewall campaigns for the equality of lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, questioning and ace (LGBTQ+) people everywhere. Lovehoney has signed up to the programme to help foster and embed LGBTQ+ inclusion in our workplace, and to learn from Stonewall's expert knowledge, training and dedicated resources to support our work on LGBTQ+ inclusion. The partnership builds on Lovehoney’s existing commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion, using the power of our product knowledge, product offering, and commitment to inclusive content (both internal and customer facing).

  • How does your circular model or circular initiative work?

Alongside our sustainable product ranges, in some of our locations, we have begun to offer product take-back, allowing for all possible product materials to be recycled and given a new lease of life. The Womanizer Premium Eco is completely recyclable and even has an exchangeable battery, so you can replace it after you've enjoyed it for 300 charges. Womanizer will also plant one tree for every Premium Eco sold.
