moss & pear

moss & pear is an online store selling eco friendly products. Primarily established to make and sell Timber Magnetic Soap Holders from reclaimed wood, we now sell a variety of products from other Australian businesses who are aligned with our values.

Our commitment

moss & pear was established following my need to locate a stylish and practical soap holder, and failing. I recalled from my early years growing up in Scotland the magnetic soap holder concept and set about making my own interpretation of this ingenious design. And so the award-winning Timber Magnetic Soap Holder was born. We love the process of making them in small batches from scratch – we know where all the separate elements came from and the effort that goes into making them. It’s a labour of love for us. moss & pear also sells products from other small Australian businesses which align with our values. The genuine sentiment behind moss & pear is to live kindly, waste less, re-use more and ‘do what you can’ to help the world we live in be more sustainable.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

All of our packaging is recycled/reused/compostable/recyclable/reusable. We reuse boxes and packaging paper and encourage customers to do so. moss & pear plants tree monthly with ReForest Now. Social media is focused on reducing waste and making the change to plastic free alternatives. We get materials for making soap holders locally (which costs more financially, but saves on carbon emissions) We won two awards from Australian Non-Toxic Awards in the Zero Waste category, and were finalists in Clean + Conscious Awards, also zero Waste Category.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Re Handmade Timber Magnetic Soap Holders, the timber is left over pieces sourced from construction jobs in Victoria. The additional products that we source are of organic material or those which replace plastic and will last a very long time. Chinese Leaf Ramie Mitts, Reusable Paper Towels, Stainless Steel Razors, Silicone Bento Boxes, Organic Produce Bags, Stainless Steel Clothes Pegs, Reusable Bread Bags, Last Object Range, Keep Cups, Soap, Shampoo and Conditioner bars.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

I have a relationship with suppliers in China for a few of my products: Aluminium Soap Travel Tins, Ceramic Toothbrush Holders, Ramie Mitts, Silicone Products and Soap Caps for my Magnetic Soap Holders. I only partnered with those which I deemed were factories, and those which had been verified. I read the company profile and checked certificates. As far as I can ascertain, they are all legitimate supply chains for moss & pear.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

We donate monthly to ReForest Now who plants trees on our behalf.
