Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

At Pablo and Rusty's, we are deeply committed to minimizing our negative impact on the natural world, just as we are dedicated to delivering high-quality and consistent coffee. As responsible manufacturers, we acknowledge that waste is an unavoidable byproduct of our operations. However, we take extensive measures to mitigate its negative effects. We believe in the power of repurposing, reusing, recycling, and upcycling our waste. Our efforts include using recyclable coffee bags and developing 100% coffee compostable pods. Moreover, we have set a goal to make 100% of our packaging compostable or recyclable by 2025. We don't just talk about sustainability; we actively demonstrate it through independent certifications that serve as globally recognized gold standards in their respective fields. By adhering to these rigorous certifications, we ensure that our actions align with our words. Furthermore, each year we produce an Impact Report that transparently communicates the challenges we face and outlines the concrete steps we are taking to reduce our negative environmental impact. Sustainability is an ongoing journey and we're excited to partner with our customers and community to make a positive impact together.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Our coffee bags are soft plastics recyclable. We are working towards 100% Compostable or Recyclable packing by 2025. Our speciality coffee pods are biodegradable and commercially compostable. We source all of our takeaway cups and lids from BioPak because their products help us to minimise our carbon footprint as much as possible. BioPak products are compostable meaning that they are certified to be composted either domestically or commercially. Our commitment is to continually reduce our footprint and improve our positive impact. By December 2025, all of our packaging will be compostable or recyclable.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

All our delivery boxes are 100% recyclable and we only use environmentally friendly plant-based print dies. All our coffee deliveries are 100% carbon offset. We use reusable webbing to wrap our pallets rather than traditional plastic wrap which has cut out the need for single use plastic wrapping. We are signatories to Modern Slavery Act. Our partner suppliers throughout our supply chains are held to the same rigorous standards we hold ourselves to from our Green Bean brokers to the manufactories who produce our shirts. They all must operate to the highest standards of ethical and sustainable practices.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

#Cans4Carers - We owe a lot of gratitude to our frontline health and emergency service workers. They keep our country going. To keep them going, we have given over 588 cans (49 cases) of our Nitro coffee to make sure they are well caffeinated as they serve our communities. SES Donation - Many parts of Australia have been devested by flooding and natural campaigns. We donated over $3700 directly to SES Services across Australia via various campaigns. These funds help support the volunteers across these organisations. We also donated cases of Nitro coffee directly to SES units up and down the east coast of Australia. Keep It Cool - Through our partnership with not-for-profit organisation, Keep It Cool, we have been able to plant over 1000 trees in the Snowy Mountain region of NSW to regenerate the soil and provide habitat to native species, helping to breathe life into fragile highlands ecosystem. Bob Brown Foundation - We have run two donation campaigns to support the conservation efforts being carried out by the Bob Brown Foundation to protect the Takayna/Tarkine Rainforest region of Tasmania. We have raised over $20k AUD to support these efforts.
