Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

We have actively assessed and chosen the most environmentally responsible approach for every touch point of our product experience. Longevity: Our products are designed to last the rigour of multi generational Australian adventures. The more people using our products = less cheap and breakable camping products heading to landfill. We are actively promoting a society of product owners, rather than consumers. Production: We choose environmentally responsible materials and production methods. At the time of our product launch November 2022, we have already repurposed 807,818 post consumer plastic bottles! Packaging: 100% recycled cardboard that is FSC Certified. We have worked with our manufacturers to ensure no single use plastics are used in the supply of Stratus Outdoors products. We have even custom designed pallet boxes made from recycled cardboard for our products to be packed, loaded and shipped to our warehouse. End of life: We have designed the Stratus Signature Guarantee where all of our products are covered by a lifetime warranty, including a repair service and an Afterlife program where products are recycled or repurposed when they are beyond repair.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Every Stratus Outdoors product is made from the most durable and Earth friendly materials available and suitable to that product application. For example, we choose to use 100% RPET in all of our fabrics because it is strong, durable and utilises existing waste in the form of post consumer plastic bottles. By using RPET fabrics we are: Keeping fossil fuels in the ground - Natural resources are spared and we save one litre of petroleum per kilo of recycled material used. Reducing landfill and ocean pollution - Using post-consumer plastic bottles diverts waste from landfill and our oceans. Reducing the carbon footprint - Throughout its entire production process, RPET consumes between 35-50% less energy compared with virgin polyester, and generates 70-79% less CO2 emissions. We use Aluminium as it is 100% recyclable at end of life, and Stainless steel in our cutlery and dinnerware as it’s sure to last the rigour of multi generational use. Every touch point of our products have been considered for positive environmental impact. Even our packaging is 100% recycled. As far as we know, we are the only Australian outdoors company with an entire product range made this way.

  • How are the service/s you offer environmentally friendly?

The very essence of camping is to enjoy the beauty and adventure of the great outdoors. We were stunned by the lack of environmentally friendly materials used in this industry and worse, the throw away attitude of major manufacturers producing cheap products destined to break after only a short amount of use. We have made a commitment to the planet and to making products that last generations. Through our product range, we aim to encourage and inspire a community of product owners rather than consumers.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

We employed an independent assessor to ensure the factories we have partnered with are operating to ethical international labour standards.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

Right now we are stoked to be part of 1% For The Planet, where we donate profits to support environmental initiatives around the world. As a brand new company, we are enthusiastically planning multiple opportunities to give back to the community. Our focus will be on developing more partnerships with like minded social/environmental enterprises, who work to preserve the natural environment. That way, we can widen our impact and protect the adventure together.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

Stratus Outdoors does not discriminate. We just want to work with people who are great at their craft!

  • How does your circular model or circular initiative work?

Our Circular model is built upon our Stratus Signature Guarantee and our Afterlife program. Our signature guarantee provides a lifetime warranty on all of our products and a repair service when products are damaged. We aim to promote a community of product owners rather than consumers, so we will arrange repairs to your Stratus items so that they can carry on with you for more adventures. When a product is deemed beyond repair, we will place it into our Afterlife program where it will be recycled or repurposed to create new Stratus Outdoors products!
