The Fresh Flower Project

The Fresh Flower Project

Low waste. Original Designs. Repurposing Waste We do more than fresh flowers. Our focus is on providing the freshest flowers without costing the environment more. Every part of our process is considered, and we do what we can to give back.

Our commitment

LOW WASTE We only buy what we need! Our concept of simplifying choice, instead of offering hundreds of options, helps us minimise wastage. We buy and use what’s fresh that day. Once we sell out, that’s it! REPURPOSING COFFEE SACKS Collaborating with local coffee roasters means we can upcycle their coffee sacks to wrap our flowers. Every coffee sack has its own special print and story, and we trim these to size before creatively wrapping each of our bunches. They’ve become a unique part of our flower bunches. OUR WASTE GOES INTO BIGGER THINGS All of our flower clippings and off-cuts go into making compost on our 5-acre property. NO PLASTICS We use recycled paper towels and biodegradable bags rather than foam to water wrap the flowers and use premium quality earthy textiles such as colourful hemp & twine rather than ribbon.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

LOW WASTE We only buy what we need! Our concept of simplifying choice, instead of offering hundreds of options, helps us minimise wastage. We buy and use what’s fresh that day. Once we sell out, that’s it! OUR WASTE GOES INTO BIGGER THINGS All of our flower clippings and off-cuts goes into making compost. The plastic that the flowers come wrapped in from the growers is collected by our team, recycled and given to a local business to make furniture.

  • How are the service/s you offer environmentally friendly?

EARTHY TEXTILES and NO PLASTIC We’re an eco-mindful bunch. We’ve opted to use more enviro-friendly materials and products to put together our bunches. They not only look better, it’s also a small way to reduce waste. We use recycled paper towels and biodegradable bags rather than foam to water wrap the flowers and use premium quality earthy textiles such as colourful hemp & twine rather than ribbon.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

As much as we can, we buy Australian-grown flowers to reduce carbon emissions by preventing the transport of flowers from across the world. We also source quality Australian-made gifts from products from talented Australian makers and producers. They, too try to find a more sustainable approach to crafting their goods. From upcycled soy candles, Australian-made boutique wine and chocolate, it’s the perfect addition to any flower bunch.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

We like to support our communities and give back where we can. For every bunch sold we donate $1 to charities. Currently, we are supporting Breast Cancer Research and Youth Off The Streets.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

Flowers are better when the florists, the drivers and support team represent the vast diversity of the people who will receive them. We are committed to running our small buisness in a way that counts everybody in.
