Tirtyl

Tirtyl is Australia’s largest just-add-water home cleaning and personal care business, developing zero-waste products that eliminate plastic waste and emissions associated with shipping water.

Our commitment

Our product range is better for the home, better for the pocket and better for the planet, with proceeds from every product sold going to Plastic Bank to collect ocean-bound plastic. To date, we’ve prevented up to 1.5 million plastic bottles from being purchased, and collected over 5 million bottles of ocean-bound plastic in partnership with Plastic Bank. So far we’re on track to reach our ambitious mission to unwaste over 100 million homes and offices globally by 2030.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

Tirtyl products eliminate single use plastic, reduce both transport and manufacturing emissions and are undeniably better for the environment. Sustainability is embraced throughout all aspects of business operations: WATERLESS FORMULATIONS The majority of cleaning and personal care products are up to 98%+ water and packaged in plastic. This makes them bulky and heavy, contributing to greater emissions during transit and more costly for customers with extra transport and excess packaging. Tirtyl products are waterless. By concentrating traditional soap and gels, into tablets Tirtyl’s Product team have been able to minimise both the volume and weight of our products as much as 98%, to significantly reduce carbon emissions during transit, as well as reduce single use plastic waste. Tirtyls business model has been built to encourage consumers to buy once, and refill forever. CLIMATE FRIENDLY Tirtyl is proudly a carbon neutral business. While some emissions throughout the supply chain are unavoidable, they are reduced wherever possible and then offset through GreenFleet Australia. In addition to this, Tirtyl does not offer express shipping and sends refills using letter-post, which is the least emissions intensive method of post.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

All Tirtyl products have been ‘made to unwaste’. The wrappers of Tirtyl tablets are home compostable (note that home is a higher standard than industrial compostable) and Tirtyl dispensers (glass and aluminium) are produced with infinitely recyclable materials with genuine recycling utility in Australia. Tirtyl boxes are made from recycled pulp and are 100% recyclable. They have also been redesigned to be as small as possible to minimise freight emissions. The tape used to seal the boxes is a vegetable gum tape and our plastic shipping labels has been replaced with compostable labels and water-activated tape. All Tirtyl products are vegan and cruelty free.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

From day 1, Tirtyl has donated proceeds from every sale to social causes, proving first-hand that small businesses can be commercially successful, whilst delivering better outcomes for people and the planet. With every tablet sold, Tirtyl is reducing plastic waste, in addition to collecting a bottle of ocean-bound plastic, in partnership with Plastic Bank. Plastic Bank is the world’s leading plastic clean-up organisation with collection infrastructure in developing communities world-wide. As of 2023, Tirtyl has prevented over 1.5 million plastic bottles from being purchased and collected over 5 million bottles of ocean-bound plastic with Plastic Bank.
