Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

TORE®'s mission is to ; 1- Reduce Water Consumption - Fashion is a thirsty business; fashion is the third largest user of water globally after paper and oil, ; 2 - Reduce Waste Accumulation - As fast fashion grows, clothing has become more disposable. A staggering 10,000 items of clothing are being sent to landfill every five minutes TORE® socks are entirely manufactured from materials that already exist on the planet that without TORE® being developed would have likely ended up in landfill. This is achieved, by using yarn off cuts from clothing manufacturers and recycling plastic bottles and paper, in the manufacturing and packaging process. TORE® saves water (and reduces emissions) through not requiring new cotton to be grown, in conjunction with using non harmful dyes and minimising the need to redye, through innovative designs. Each part of the process is certified, meaning TORE® can measure the positive environmental impact, its manufacturing process and innovative designs deliver. Each 3 pack of TORE® socks on average saves 1050 litres of water (approximately 2 years drinking water) and diverts 23.7 grams of plastic (2.4 plastic bottles) and 90 grams of textile waste (0.6 t-shirts) from landfill.

  • How does your circular model or circular initiative work?

As a new and growing brand, our circular model is being fine tuned every day. TORE® socks themselves begin the circular model as they are 100% recycled, meaning they are created completely from materials that already exist and therefore not adding any new materials into the world. Socks, an item that cannot typically be reused for it's original purpose, has many end life uses. We are working to partner with local textile recycling facilities to give these already recycled materials and 3rd life, whether that be for insulation or other textile products. Additionally, we encourage individuals to reuse TORE® socks for a range of different things such as rags, dog toys, sock puppets etc. We have also partnered with local media organisations to produce articles that educate people on ways to reuse and recycle your socks. Everyday we are working to find new ways close the cycle and create a more sustainable business model from the production to the consumption of our products.
