Twoobs

We’re kinda a footwear brand. But kinda not really. See, we didn’t agree with the way most shoes were being created. So we decided to create something, well, kinder.

Our commitment

With sugar cane soles, lightweight lycra, and clever vegan leather, TWOOBS are the kinda sandals that are as gentle on the planet as they are on your feet. 80% recycled, 100% vegan and 1000% comfy. And when you’re ready to let them go, we turn your TWOOBS into playground mats through our Takesies Backsies recycling program. Fun and functional. Carbon who? We don’t know her. We’ve offset carbon emissions from every pair so you can put your best foot forward. And we’ve dedicated an entire page to our makers so you can thank them personally for helping us keep the planet cute. Did we mention we’re vegan? Not sure if you’ve read, but, we’re vegan. PETA-Approved Vegan. That’s pretty much the highest order of vegan-respect a shoe brand can get. This means we’re proudly cruelty-free so no animals are used or harmed in the making of our shoes or in our supply chain. Only profusely patted.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

We’ve been satchel-free for a while now. But shoes still have to come in something, right? We felt boxed in (get it) by old school cardboard, so we thought outside the box (ok, we’ll stop). Our shoe boxes are made with recycled materials that are FSC certified, making it official — we care about the forest. Like, a lot. We’ve also created a first-of-its-kind recycling program, Takesies Backsies, where we take back your old shoes and turn them into office flooring. It’s kinda magic. When it comes to caring for the planet, we believe in walking the talk with our everyday choices. Starting with what we do at TWOOBS HQ. As a business and as a team of planet-lovers, we’ve made a commitment to do everything we can to do things kinda differently in our day-to-day operations. Here’s how: · Solar panels give us clean energy · Apple and citrus trees throughout our rooftop garden for sweet and zesty treats · A rainwater irrigation system saves water · Motion-activated lights save energy · 100% recycled toilet paper from Who Gives a Crap saves our behinds, and our trees · Non-toxic cleaning products from Thank You and Eco Store means less yucky chemicals for our hands and waterways · Reusable coffee cups from Frank Green

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Our shoes are made from 80% post-consumer materials and 20% conventional polyester, otherwise known as recycled Lycra. Using recycled plastics means not only do we save plastics and yarn from ending up in landfill, we also save face next time we run into Captain Planet. He is our hero, afterall. Our famous 'Sweet Soles' are made with up to 51% sugarcane. Sustainably sourced from Brazil, this plastic alternative actually sucks up carbon. Made using rainwater rather than irrigation, this renewable material puts the sole in our sandals, and fills our soul with happiness.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

We’re the kinda footwear brand that cares about peeps, plants, and pets. That’s why besides being 100% vegan, we’re also 100% serious about ethical working standards. Each pair of TWOOBS is handmade in Dongguan Fashida Intelligence Technology Co, a factory that specialises in footwear production. Shoemakers get paid a living wage, receive meals, healthcare and childcare as well as optional room and board. Now that’s our kinda factory. We’re putting our feet down when it comes to carbon. We’ve had enough, and so has the planet. That’s why we offset 100% of our emissions to make our production process carbon neutral. How? 90% of our suppliers are located within the Dongguan area — which is kinda the same size as Darwin. That means, most of our shoe components are only a 26 minute drive, or three hour and one minute walk, or one hop, skip, and a jump away from our factory. Less travel, less carbon. Simples.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

We put our offsets towards the panda-protecting WWF Mamize Firewood-Saving Cookstoves Project. The project gives families in China’s Sichuan Province higher-efficiency stoves to use for cooking stuff like food and warming stuff like feet. By replacing inefficient stoves, indoor air pollution and the amount of wood required for fuel is cut way back. Less wood being cut down means bigger forests for big pandas. Paws for applause.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

What’s it like to work at TWOOBS? It’s not all patting puppies and modeling shoes. Ok, sometimes it is. But it’s also a supportive and accepting environment. As a female-owned and female-led business, we think it’s really important to lift up women and people of all gender identities, sexualities, ages and abilities. We’re also super committed to putting the planet first, being animal-friendly and transparent about what we do and why we do it. There are no secrets here. We’ll tell you who made our shoes and who’s penning our Instagram captions. We’ll even tell you the recipe for our grandma’s vegan choc chip cookie recipe (if you dare to ask). We work hard — but never on weekends or Wednesdays — and play while we do it. That’s just the kinda footwear brand we are.
