Ulu Hye

Plant based milk that's better for you and better for the environment! Our Mylk Bases come in a recyclable, reusable glass jar and when added to water and blended, creates up to 10 litres of fresh, creamy milk. No plastic, no waste and no nasties!

Our commitment

We started Ulu Hye in 2017 because we wanted to help fight the war on plastic waste. Our world-first Mylk Bases are a homemade nut milk base, which, when added with water and blended for 1 minute creates up to 10 litres of fresh, creamy milk in the comfort of your own home. Plus, you can make as much milk as you want, when you want, which means, no waste! We've prevented over 800,000 plastic cartons and containers from entering landfill and one day hope to make it 10 million. With one simple switch to our Mylk Bases, you can help reduce plastic one jar at a time.

Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

We created Ulu Hye because we wanted to fight the war on plastic waste with a superior alternative milk product that was better for people and better for the environment. The core of our business at Ulu Hye is promoting sustainability. We only work with businesses that have a strong sustainability focus, from where we source our raw materials, to our infinitely recyclable glass jars, eco-printers and manufacturers. Our vision is to reduce the amount of waste and UHT cartons in households, and our mission is to save 10 million of those cartons from landfill.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

Instead of plastic cartons and containers, our products come in reusable and infinitely recyclable glass jars. One 'Original' Mylk Base makes up to 10 litres of fresh, creamy milk which saves 10 plastic cartons or containers from entering landfill.

  • How are the service/s you offer environmentally friendly?

When we first started Ulu Hye in 2017, there wasn’t one single plant based milk offering a more sustainable solution. And today, we’re proud to still be the only plant based milk brand in Australia to be packaged up in an infinitely recyclable jar. Offering clean and healthy ingredients, sustainability and convenience, our Mylk Bases are an easy detour to make your nut milk at home, waste-free.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

We work closely with a small and local, Australian manufacturing company and ensure that international labor standards are met.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

Since we started Ulu Hye, we've donated products to various community charities, causes and events that align with our values. Most recently, we donated products to the Sustainability Alliance of Students and Staff at the University of Technology Sydney and also to the winners of 2022 Green Impact Cup presented by Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability.

  • How does your circular model or circular initiative work?

Packaged in a reusable and infinitely recyclable glass jar, our Mylk Bases creates up to 10 litres of fresh, creamy milk and saves 10 plastic cartons and containers from entering landfill. Once opened, it can be used within the next 3 months, which means you can make as much as you want, when you want. It’s waste-free milk that’s better for you and better for the environment.
