Our Sustainability Framework

  • What is your company doing to reduce your emissions or combat key environmental issues (e.g. waste (packaging, end of life product strategy or recycling), biodiversity, land use, water, chemical use, energy use, and natural resource use etc.)?

We have worked with suppliers to create completely recycled packaging with the development of an eco-friendly, uncoated shoebox and tags. Our shoebox and packaging are made from recycled materials, and our carry handle is made from recycled plastic bottles. Our tote bags are made from 8 recycled water bottles. Our products are Vegan Certified, which means all materials used and production processes are totally animal friendly.

  • How are the products your company offers made from environmentally friendly materials (e.g. recycled, organic materials)?

We use water-based materials rather than the typically used oil based synthetics. This special kind of DMF-free PU reduces energy consumption associated with the manufacturing of traditional PUs while also minimising the harmful exhaust fumes with such practices. We also use recycled materials which means less waste and less environmental impact. Our incredible shoes are made using Bloom, a protein-rich biomass which blends algae with various polymers to produce a sustainable compound. The farmed algae helps to clean the air and polluted water, while the compounds produced are used in our insoles, mid-soles and out-soles, replacing the amount of conventional fossil-fuel based plastics. The use of water-based materials, recycled materials and Bloom naturally lowers the chemical processes used in production and their harmful by-products.

  • Do you partner with ethical factories that meet international labor standards? What processes have you implemented to make your supply chain more sustainable?

Yes, all of the factories we work with are BSCI socially audited to ensure they meet international labour standards. We ship our products to ports on both sides of Australia to save on unnecessary road transport from warehouses to stores.

  • How does your company give back to the community (e.g. financial donations, volunteering, partnerships etc.)?

There are some very exciting projects on our roadmap that we can't wait to share. Giving back to the community is a very important part of our journey forward.

  • How has your company made a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion & diversity (e.g. Gender / Race / Ethnicity / National Origin / Sexual Orientation / Religion / Disability / Age)?

Yes, we have a commitment to achieve and maintain inclusion and diversity around people that we hire and people that we work with across all areas of our business.

  • How does your circular model or circular initiative work?

Creating a circular economy is a critical part of our journey. We aren't quite there yet, but it is our goal to ensure our products don't just end up in landfill once they reach the end of their lifecycle. Follow us @zeroeshoes to come along for the ride.
